A fabulous antique George III 18K gold and black enamel mourning ring, dated to 1796, probably Scottish provincial and inscribed to Elizabeth Crane. This wonderful solid 18K gold mourning ring has a central circle of black enamel flanked by two thin circles of black enamel, the center circle reading’ELIZ:CRANE OB:20 JAN 1796′. The ring is stamped inside the band with maker’s mark’JB’ into an oval. There are also various other partially rubbed marks which are likely provincial Scotland town marks. The ring tests for 18K gold. The ring is approximately a size 9. The band is approximately 5.5mm wide. The ring has a total weight of approximately 2.9 grams. The ring is in general good condition with wear all over the enamel including some possible small repairs to the enamel. Thanks for looking and please take a look at my other items!
